National Statistics Institute announces results of the National Health Survey 2014

Last update on 12-11-2015
By 2014 more than half the population aged 18 or over was overweight

The National Statistics Institute, in collaboration with the National Institute of Health Doctor Ricardo Jorge (INSA), carried out, in 2014, the National Health Survey (INS 2014) throughout the national territory.

The main objective is to characterize the resident population aged 15 or over in three major domains:
  • Health condition,
  • Health care,
  • Health determinants related to lifestyles.

INS 2014 is harmonized and regulated at European level (EU Regulation No 141/2013), allowing international comparison of results. National issues were also included in order to obtain data whenever possible comparable to the data of the 4th INS of 2005/2006 and on the relevant themes for the characterization of the health status of the population, namely:
  • Reproductive health,
  • Food consumption,
  • Satisfaction with life and
  • Long-term disability.
