The European Statistics Competition (ESC), run by the European Union Statistics Service (Eurostat) and some National Statistical Institutes, will be held for the first time in the 2017/18 academic year, INE of Portugal.
- Promote students' curiosity and interest in statistics;
- Encourage teachers to use new materials to teach statistics, increasing the use of official statistical data and the application of acquired statistical knowledge;
- Show students and teachers the role of statistics in various aspects of society, making it known as a field of study at university level;
- Promote teamwork and collaboration to achieve common goals.
The European Statistics Competition will have two phases: the first, at the national level, will determine the finalists for the next European level. In both, pupils of the secondary education (category A) and the third cycle of the basic education (category B) can participate. The teams will have up to 3 students + 1 teacher / tutor.
