The General Directorate of Health (DGS) is a central body of the Ministry of Health, integrated in the direct administration of the State, with administrative autonomy.

Taking as a reference body for all those who think and act in the health field, it is required to:

  • Guide and develop public health programs to improve the delivery of health care and continuous improvement of clinical and organizational quality;
  • Coordinate and ensure the epidemiological surveillance at national level, in context with other member states of the European Union and international organizations;
  • Prepare and disseminate health statistics;
  • Promote technical studies on health care;
  • Develop technical cooperation activities;
  • Support the exercise of the powers of the National Health Authority;
  • Coordinate the Emergency System in Public Health;
  • Track Service Center of the National Health Service.
