The Agency for Development and Cohesion, IP (Agency, IP) was created in order to facilitate the coordination of the Structural Policy and Regional Development co-financed by European funds, ensure greater coordination of financial options macroprogramação and strengthen economic rationality and the financial sustainability of co-financed investments.

For funds of cohesion policy (European Regional Development Fund, European Social Fund and Cohesion Fund), the concentration in a single institution, the functions relating to overall coordination, certification, Payment, Evaluation, Communication, Monitoring and Audit Operations in this case in conjunction with the Audit Authority, is a clear contribution to the rationalization, specialization and efficiency of services.

The implementation of the Agency also makes it possible to support a greater range of Regional Sustainable Development policies, including through the design and promotion of place-based instruments aimed at Land Valuation and simultaneously develop and stabilize a center of expertise in the area of State aid.
